Wow, your makeup artistry business is going well and you’re planning to do this full time because it looks like a lucrative source of income. Although this sounds like a great idea, you shouldn’t go full time not unless you know how to get more clients as a freelance makeup artist. So that’s what we’re going to talk about today.
Maintain a Good Online Presence
Almost all your potential clients may be found online or will find you online. So remember to be present in the world wide web. Fortunately for us, signing up to social media platforms is for free. Although there are paid means on how to get more traction, you can always manage with your own efforts and organic following through the help of your friends and existing clients.
Start by creating a separate email for your business and then using that email to create business accounts. This way, you don’t get any inquiries about your services mixed up with your personal notifications.
Constantly Update Your Portfolio
One way for your customers to remember that you’re always in business is by constantly updating your portfolio. The moment that they see you not rendering services anymore, there’s a tendency that they might think that you’re not active anymore. So keep updating it.
Remember that your portfolio consists of more than just the photos of your clients or the photos of your work. It can include photos of the makeup items you purchase from time to time for your clients, behind the scenes shots, a mini review every now and then and so much more. Basically, anything that has to do with your makeup artistry career.
Hold Promos Every Now and Then
You can always hold a promo during peak seasons so that clients prioritize hiring you. A very popular promo is the prom promo during the prom season or discounted wedding packages during the bridal season. But remember not to lower down your prices to the point that you won’t have any profit anymore. You still have to replenish your kit after all these events so don’t go too crazy on giving discounts.
Create a Loyalty Program
A loyalty program is a technique that most businesses do so their customers keep on coming back. A great idea for makeup artists is to create a 5 plus 1 card. This means that on their 6th session, their hair and makeup is for free. You can also have a program that rewards points especially if you’re also selling makeup. This way, they keep on coming back to you for your services or products. Which is the goal in the first place.
Remember that doing makeup artistry full time is a big decision. Also, not to dampen your spirits, but you’re not going to thrive not unless you’re willing to do the leg work and exhaust energy and resources in marketing. There are so many more ways than the ones I listed above but go ahead and try them out and they should give you a jumpstart.
